Rasburicase for prevention of hyperuricemia and tumor lysis syndrome.

چکیده
• Hyperuricemia associated with tumor lysis syndrome is a potentially serious complication most frequently seen during chemotherapy for malignancies with large tumor burden and highly proliferative cells, such as aggressive lymphomas and leukemia.1-3 Hyperuricemia usually occurs in association with other metabolic abnormalities, including hyperphosphatemia, hyperkalemia, hypocalcemia, and azotemia, and these metabolites can in turn rapidly exceed the excretory capacity of the kidneys, resulting in renal failure and occasionally death.

The Efficacy of Single Dose Rasburicase in Prevention or Treatment of Tumor Lysis Syndrome in Children
Background: Tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) is a major metabolic complication in patients with malignancy after initiation of chemotherapy or spontaneously without treatment. The role of Rasburicase (a recombinant urate-oxidase enzyme) in prevention and treatment of TLS has been demonstrated in recent years. We aimed to investigate the efficacy of a single dose of rasburicase in reducing the risk of...
متن کاملPrevention and treatment of tumor lysis syndrome, and the efficacy and role of rasburicase
Tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) is a potentially life-threatening condition that occurs in oncologic and hematologic patients with large tumor burden, either due to cytotoxic therapy or, less commonly, spontaneously because of massive tumor cell lysis. TLS is clinically characterized by acute renal failure, hyperuricemia, hyperkalemia, hyperphosphatemia, and hypocalcemia. While limited options are a...
متن کاملEffects of Recombinant Urate Oxidase (Rasburicase) and Allopurinol for Prophylaxis and Treatment of Hyperuricemia in Patients with Leukemia and Lymphoma
Background: Efficacy of rasburicase in pediatric patients with leukemia and lymphoma is proved. This study aims toweigh efficacy and safety of rasburicase versus more conventional therapy, allopurinol, and to compare their safetyand properties in tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) of leukemia and lymphoma patients.Materials and Methods: The study was done with a retrospective cohort design. Patients we...
متن کاملPitfalls, prevention, and treatment of hyperuricemia during tumor lysis syndrome in the era of rasburicase (recombinant urate oxidase)
Along with hydration and urinary alkalinization, allopurinol has been the standard agent for the management of hyperuricemia in patients with a high tumor burden at risk of tumor lysis syndrome; however, this agent often fails to prevent and treat this complication effectively. Rasburicase (recombinant urate oxidase) has been shown to be effective in reducing uric acid and preventing uric acid ...
متن کاملTumor Lysis Syndrome in Patients with Hematological Malignancies
Tumor lysis syndrome is a metabolic complication that may follow the initiation of cancer therapy. It commonly occurs in hematological malignant patients particularly non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and acute leukemia due to chemotherapy or spontaneously. It is characterized by a biochemical abnormality such as hyperuricemia, hyperkalemia, hyperphosphatemia, and hypocalcemia and its clinical outcome is ...
